In the Navy, the <strong><em>Chief Petty Officer<\/em><\/strong> serves a dual role as both a technical expert and as a leader; emphasis being more on leadership. There is always a sense of humor that comes from this culture. For the Navy, I find the more ingenious humor typically involves a CPO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enjoy this Navy Friday Funny. An oldie but a goodie!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An old Navy Chief and an old Marine Gunny were sitting at the VFW arguing about who&#8217;d had the tougher career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI did 30 years in the\nCorps,\u201d the Gunny declared proudly, \u201cand fought in three of my country&#8217;s wars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFresh out of boot camp I hit the beach at Okinawa, clawed my way up the blood-soaked sand, and eventually took out an entire enemy machine gun nest with a single grenade. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs a sergeant, I fought in Korea alongside General MacArthur. We pushed back the enemy inch by bloody inch all the way up to the Chinese border, always under a barrage of artillery and small arms fire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFinally, as a gunny\nsergeant, I did three consecutive combat tours in Vietnam. We humped through\nthe mud and razor grass for 14 hours a day, plagued by rain and mosquitoes,\nducking under sniper fire all day and mortar fire all night. In a fire fight, we&#8217;d\nfire until our arms ached and our guns were empty, then we&#8217;d charge the enemy\nwith bayonets!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Navy Chief takes a long swig of his drink, then turns to the Gunny with a sly smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Ah,\u201d said the Chief with a dismissive wave of his hand, \u201call shore duty, huh?\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Each military branch of the United States has its own cultures, language, and traditions.
