{"id":4699,"date":"2021-07-13T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-07-13T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/azadkinsiii.com\/blog\/?p=4699"},"modified":"2021-07-12T14:21:21","modified_gmt":"2021-07-12T18:21:21","slug":"91-blog-updates-and-a-new-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/azadkinsiii.com\/blog\/91-blog-updates-and-a-new-book\/","title":{"rendered":"#91\u2014Blog Update(s) and\u2026 a &#8220;New&#8221; Book"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>Trivia Questions (Answers @ end)<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Who said, <em>\u201cIf you only walk on sunny days you&#8217;ll never reach your destination.\u201d<\/em>?<\/li><li>In what movie (and who said it) did we hear,<em> \u201cI love waking up in the morning not knowing what\u2019s gonna happen or who I\u2019m gonna meet, where I\u2019m gonna wind up.\u201d<\/em>?<\/li><li>In what song (and who sang it) did we hear:<br><em>Oh I&#8217;m beginning to think that man has never found<\/em><br><em>The words that could make you want me<\/em><br><em>That have the right amount of letters, just the right sound<\/em><br><em>That could make you hear, make you see<\/em><br><em>That you are drivin&#8217; me out of my mind<\/em><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thanks to those who commented on my previous blog, <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/azadkinsiii.com\/blog\/90-are-we-there-yet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">#90\u2014Are We There Yet?<\/a><\/em><\/strong> Several comments were spot on and reminded me of things I\u2019d forgotten. Here\u2019s a few more shared \u201cmemories:\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>Going to a new place was my favorite thing in the Navy. As Led Zeppelin would say, \u201cwe drive our ships to new lands\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/li><li><em>A high school buddy of mine asked me once, &#8220;As a sailor, did you have a girl in every port?&#8221; I replied to him, &#8220;Of course not, I haven&#8217;t hit &#8216;every&#8217; port as of yet.&#8221;<\/em><\/li><li><em>I\u2019ve seen places and done things I would never have done if I hadn&#8217;t joined the Navy.<\/em><\/li><li><em>That is what I use to tell all of the young sailors. Go out and sight see, visit local attractions. You can see bars and dives back home. These memories will stay with you a lifetime.<\/em><\/li><li><em>Life can take away a lot of things, but it will never take your memories.<\/em><\/li><li><em>I made 3 Mediterranean Cruises on the Rosie (FDR). Loved all the ports that we went to.<\/em><\/li><li><em>A very dangerous place to be during launching and recovering aircraft! Loved that flight deck!<\/em><\/li><li><em>I remember Lt Leone as one of my regular &#8220;Triple Nuts&#8221; pilots. He was always ready to rack up some hours.<\/em><\/li><li><em>Great read. I remember my Westpac &#8217;75 very well. It was my first. I reported to the USS Davidson (FF-1045) for an 8-month deployment. I was not ready for the deployment to end.<\/em><\/li><li><em>Remember being in port for 4 days and couldn\u2019t wait to be back at sea, Hungover and broke, enjoyed my time in the Navy.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I began writing <strong><em>A Veteran\u2019s Journey<\/em><\/strong> blog in November 2019, <em>before<\/em> the pandemic\u2014geez, that seems like such a <em>long <\/em>time ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once a week, I reach back into those long ago cherished memories to share some of <em>my own <\/em>experiences, primarily from the Navy, but several since I left the service in 1977, and a few from my father, who served during WWII in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like many veterans, after leaving the Navy, I found that <strong><em>the Navy never left me.<\/em><\/strong> The experiences I gained during my short 4 years stayed with me: both the good and what some may consider the \u201cnot-so-good.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But here we are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m sure I&#8217;m not the only one with these types of experiences. One of the many rewards of creating and writing a blog is that there are many who respond via social media about <em>their own experiences<\/em> during <em>their<\/em> time in the Navy. I also know that several other shipmates \u201creconnected\u201d with each other after reading &amp; commenting on a specific post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To witness this continued comradery&#8230; the continued stories&#8230; the continued sharing&#8230; To me, that\u2019s one benefit of social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is Blog #91\u2026 wow. I never thought. I\u2019ve been doing this for a while.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Second, I created a <strong>list of the blogs<\/strong> I\u2019ve written in a simple table format, with a link to both the blog post and the audio recording. I hope these simple changes will make it easier to \u201cfind\u201d a specific post. There\u2019s also a search engine on the blog site as well as hashtags and\u2026 a \u201cword cloud.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I always thought Word Clouds were geeky, but as I\u2019ve grown my blog site, I realize it is really just another &#8220;search engine&#8221; that provides a way to see which posts have the most popular hashtags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yeah, kinda geeky, but it works. But if it was just as easy to convert to a paperback book or eBook format, why not? Right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyway, \u201c<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/azadkinsiii.com\/book_avj-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A Veteran\u2019s Journey, Volume 1<\/a><\/strong>,\u201d a <em>Collection of Short Stories<\/em> is basically a book with blogs #1 through #50. It\u2019s hard to believe that\u2019s almost a year\u2019s worth of blogs, but it just worked out that way. If you\u2019re interested, it\u2019s available on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/1736387820\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amazon<\/a> as both print and Kindle versions. Right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8230; <strong>Another Book<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And if that wasn\u2019t enough, I\u2019m working on <em>another<\/em> novel. It is totally different from my previous books, but there will be a &#8220;hint&#8221; of military and a <em>lot <\/em>of technology\u2014two of my all-time favorite subjects. It\u2019s basically a high-tech thriller involving virtual reality, &#8220;soon-to-be&#8221; technologies, gaming, espionage, and an intriguing compliment of characters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They say, &#8220;<em>Write what you know<\/em>,&#8221; so, I know a <em>plethora <\/em>of intriguing characters. You know, like many of us Navy veterans&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m currently in the research and idea development phase now, which, to me, is the most fun.
