Each military branch of the United States has its own cultures, language, and traditions. In the Navy, the Chief Petty Officer serves a dual role as both a technical expert and as a leader; emphasis being more on leadership. There is always a sense of humor that comes from this culture. For the Navy, I find the more ingenious humor typically involves a CPO.

Several men, including one old staunchy Navy Chief Petty Officer, are in the locker room of a swanky San Diego golf club a few days before Christmas.
A mobile phone on a bench rings. The Chief looks around the room and, not seeing anyone, walks over and answers it, hitting the speaker button.
Chief: “Hello.”
Woman on the phone: “Honey, it’s me… are you at the club?”
Chief: “Yes, of course. Where else would I be?”
Woman: “I’m at the mall now and found this beautiful leather coat. It’s on sale at half price and only costs $1,000. Is it okay if I buy it?”
Chief: “Sure, go ahead if you really like it.”
Woman: “You’re so sweet. By the way, I also stopped by the Mercedes dealership and saw a Benz I really liked. And it’s in your favorite color: Battleship Gray.”
Chief: “How much?”
Woman: “It’s less than a hundred grand; only $98,000.”
Chief: “Okay, but for that price, make sure it comes will all the options you want.”
Woman: “You’re so wonderful. What a great Christmas present. Oh, and one more thing… the house we wanted last year is back on the market. They’re asking $980,000. I know it’s a lot, but it really is our dream home.”
Chief: “Well, if you really want it, then go ahead and make an offer for 900 grand. They’ll probably take it. If not, go the extra 80 if you think it’s a good price.”
Woman: “Oh, honey. You’re the stuff dreams are made of. I love you sooooo much! You’re the most generous man I’ve ever known.”
Chief: “Thanks, sweetie. You are so worth it. Merry Christmas! ‘Bye!”
The Chief hangs up the phone and gently places it back on the bench. The other men in the locker room stare at him in astonishment, with mouths wide open.
The Chief turns around and asks, “Anybody know whose phone this is?”
