Enjoy this week’s Navy Friday Funny. An oldie, but a goodie!
A Boeing 767 was on a long-distance flight across the Atlantic Ocean, flying consistently at 800 kilometers per hour at 30,000 feet.
Suddenly, a US Navy F-18 Hornet appears alongside.
The pilot of fighter slows down, matching the “slower” jet’s speed and greets the pilot of the passenger plane by radio. “Greetings, Boeing airliner. Kind of a long & boring flight, isn’t it? Here’s something to wake you up. Hold my beer!”
The Navy jet swerves to the side, rolls over on its back, accelerates, breaks through the sound barrier, rides rapidly to a dizzying height, only to swoop down almost to sea level in a breathtaking dive. He then loops back next to the Boeing airliner and asks, “Well… What did you think of that?”
The commercial pilot looks over and answers, “Very impressive, but now watch this.”
The Navy jet pilot keeps an eye on the commercial jet. But… nothing happens. It continues to fly in a stubbornly straight path, never changing speed. After five minutes, the commercial pilot radioed. “Well, what did you think?”
The jet pilot asks in a confusing voice, “What did you do?”
The Boeing pilot laughs out loud. “Well, I got up, stretched my legs, went to the back of the flight to the bathroom to relieve myself, got a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll, and made an appointment with a stewardess for the next three nights in a 5-star hotel, which will be paid for by my employer.”
And before you ask. Yes, I’m an ex-Navy Pilot; F-4 Phantoms and F-14 Tomcats. Those were real jets, not like the tinker toys you boys fly today. Just sayin’.
The moral of the story…
When you are young, speed and adrenaline seem to be great. But as you get older and wiser, comfort and peace are not to be despised. The older generation (MY generation) calls this S.O.S.: Slower, Older, Smarter.
Don’t worry… if you’re not there yet, you will be soon enough.
