Each military branch of the United States has its own cultures, language, and traditions. In the Navy, the Chief Petty Officer serves a dual role as both a technical expert and as a leader–emphasis being more on leadership. There is always a sense of humor that comes from this culture. For the Navy, I find the more ingenious humor typically involves a CPO.

An old Navy Chief Petty Officer and a Marine Gunny Sergeant were sitting in a bar one day arguing over which was the superior service. They’d had a few already…
After a long swig of beer, the Gunny raises one eyebrow and says, “Well, we had Iwo Jima!”
Arching both his eyebrows, the Chief quickly replies, “We… had the Battle of Midway.”
“Not entirely true,” responds the Gunny, shaking his head. “Some of those pilots were Marines, killed at the Battle of Midway.”
The Chief raises his glass in a toast and takes another swig and politely responds, “Point taken.”
The Gunny then sits taller and loudly says, “We Marines were born at Tunn Tavern!”
The Chief, nodding in agreement, replies, “But we had John Paul Jones.”
The argument continues until the Marine comes up with what he thinks will end the discussion. With a flourish of finality he proudly states, “The Marines invented sex!”
The Chief takes another long drink and replies with a dastardly smile, “That may be true, but it was the Navy Sailor who introduced it to women.”
Crickets……..belly laugh!!!!!
And then the fisticuffs broke out…😂
Then there’s the one about the sailor and the marine at the urinals
What’s the punchline?
As the Sailor walks away from the urinal the Marine says “hey Sailor in the Marines they teach us to wash our hands after we piss. The Sailor nonchalantly replies ” in the Navy they teach us not to piss on our hands.
That was going around when I joined the Navy 1955.
