Navy Friday Funny: The Admiral and the Navy Chief

Each military branch of the United States has its own cultures, language, and traditions. In the Navy, the Chief Petty Officer serves a dual role as both a technical expert and as a leader; emphasis being more on leadership. There is always a sense of humor that comes from this culture. For the Navy, I find the more ingenious humor typically involves a CPO.

Enjoy this Navy Friday Funny. An oldie but a goodie.

A Navy Admiral was about to start the morning briefing with his staff. While waiting for the coffee machine to finish brewing, the Admiral decided to pose a question to all assembled.

He explained that his wife had been a bit frisky the night before and he failed to get his usual amount of sound sleep.

He posed the question of just how much of sex was “work” and how much of it was “pleasure?”

A Captain chimed in first. “Admiral, I believe it’s 75-25 percent in favor of work.”

The Admiral’s facial expression didn’t change.

A Lieutenant Commander jumped in next, certain he had the right answer. “50-50, Sir.”

The Admiral’s expression didn’t change.

Seeing the Admiral didn’t respond to either the Captain’s or the Lt Commander’s answer, a Lieutenant — hoping to score a few points with the Admiral — quickly answered, “Sir, with all due respect, it’s 25 percent – 75 percent in favor of pleasure, depending upon your state of inebriation at the time.”

The Admiral scoffed. He was obviously not impressed with any of his officers.

There being no consensus, the Admiral turned to the Navy Chief who was in charge of making the coffee. “What do you think, Chief?”

Without any hesitation, the gruff Chief responded, “Sir, it has to be 100% pleasure.”

The Admiral’s expression changed to one of surprise. As you might imagine, he simply asked the Chief, “Why?”.

“Well, Admiral. If there was any work involved, the officers would have me doing it for them.”

The room fell silent.

God Bless the enlisted man.
