Navy Friday Funny – The Chief and the Loud Phone Call

Navy Friday Funny Coffee Mug - front

Each military branch of the United States has its own cultures, language, and traditions. In the Navy, the Chief Petty Officer serves a dual role as both a technical expert and as a leader; emphasis being more on leadership. There is always a sense of humor that comes from this culture. For the Navy, I find the more ingenious humor typically involves a CPO.

After a long and tiring day, working in the Bremerton Shipyards refurbishing his destroyer, a Navy Chief climbed aboard the city bus, settled down in his seat, and closed his eyes.

As the bus rolled out of the shipyards onto the main highway, a young lady sitting next to the Chief pulled out her cell phone and began talking in a loud voice.

“Hi sweetheart. It’s Erika. I’m on the bus heading home. Yes, I know it’s late, but I had a long meeting.

“No honey. Not with that young Ensign from the engineering shop. It was with my boss at the shipyards.

“No sweetie. You’re the only man in my life.

“Yes, of course I’m sure. Cross my heart.”

The Chief, trying to keep his calm after a rough day, turned his head to the other side, trying his best to ignore the obnoxious conversation.

Fifteen minutes later, she was still talking loudly, oblivious to anyone around her.

The Chief had had enough and leaned over, close enough to the phone and, using his gentle but commanding “Chief voice,” said, “Erika. Hang up the phone and come back to bed.”

Erika no longer uses her cell phone in public.

Never mess with a Navy Chief Petty Officer.

  1. I had some tweeker woman bothering me for a cig. at a casino in S.D. once and when I wouldn’t give her one cause I was almost out she started making a bunch of vocal derogatory remarks to me, so I said in a very loud voice, no I don’t want a blow job for 20 dollars, she left me alone after that.
