Navy Friday Funny – The Chief & the Gunny

Navy Friday Funny Coffee Mug - front

Each military branch of the United States has its own cultures, language, and traditions. In the Navy, the Chief Petty Officer serves a dual role as both a technical expert and as a leader; emphasis being more on leadership. There is always a sense of humor that comes from this culture. For the Navy, I find the more ingenious humor typically involves a CPO.

A Marine Gunny Sergeant walks into a Navy bar and says, I’ve heard that Navy Chiefs are the hardest drinkers.

I will lay down $500 if a Chief can drink 10 San Miguel’s in a row.

Nobody steps up to take the challenge, but one Chief leaves.

The same Chief returns in 30 minutes and taps the Gunny on the shoulder.

He asks, “Is your bet still on?”

The Marine stares at the Chief. “You bet it is.” He then asks the bartender to line up 10 San Miguel’s.

The Chief takes a deep breath, grabs the first beer and chugs it down. Then the next, then the next. Everyone in the bar cheers him on.  He continues until he finishes the last San Miguel.

The Gunny is completely stunned. The Marine hands the Chief $500. He then asks, “Where did you go for that 30 minutes before taking my bet?”

The Chief burped abruptly and answered, “I went down the street to the Salty Dog Saloon. I wanted to make sure I could down 10 beers first before taking your money.”
