Navy Friday Funny – The Chief & the State Trooper

Navy Friday Funny Coffee Mug - front

Each military branch of the United States has its own cultures, language, and traditions. In the Navy, the Chief Petty Officer serves a dual role as both a technical expert and as a leader; emphasis being more on leadership. There is always a sense of humor that comes from this culture. For the Navy, I find the more ingenious humor typically involves a CPO.

Enjoy this Navy Friday Funny! An oldie… but a goodie.

A Navy Senior Chief drove his brand new Corvette Stingray convertible out of the dealership. Taking off down the road, he floored it on a straightaway to 80 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through what little gray hair he had left.

Amazing feeling he thought as he flew down I-5, pushing the gas pedal even more.

Looking in his rear view mirror, he spotted a state trooper behind him, lights flashing and siren blaring. He floored it to 100 mph, then 110, then 120.

Suddenly he thought, “What am I doing? I’m too old for this crap,” and pulled over to await the trooper’s arrival. He reached over and put on his “Navy CPO Retired” ball cap.

Pulling in behind him, the trooper cautiously walked up to the Corvette, looked at his watch, and said, “Chief, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a reason for your speeding that I’ve never heard before, I’ll let you off with a warning.”

The Chief paused for a moment, then responded. “Sir… years ago my wife ran off with a state trooper while my ship was out on a Westpac cruise. I was afraid you were bringing her back.”

The state trooper looked up the highway, then back down the highway, then at the Chief with a crooked smile.

“Have a nice day, Chief.”
