Navy Friday Funny – The Senior (Senior) at the Drive-Thru

Navy Friday Funny Coffee Mug - front

Each military branch of the United States has its own cultures, language, and traditions. In the Navy, the Chief Petty Officer serves a dual role as both a technical expert and as a leader; emphasis being more on leadership. There is always a sense of humor that comes from this culture. For the Navy, I find the more ingenious humor typically involves a CPO.

A retired Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer stopped by a McDonald’s drive-thru. As he glanced over the menu and contemplated his order, he heard a car behind him blaring its horn.

Looking in his rear-view mirror, a young female began to mouth something he determined was “un lady-like.”

He continued to take his time, but finally ordered his lunch. When he got to the first window to pay, he also asked to pay for the lady’s order, the one behind him who honked her horn. The cashier smiled at the older gentleman. “That’s so sweet of you, sir.”

“I’m happy to oblige, ma’am. I like to pay if forward when I can.” He slowly moved up to the second window.

The cashier must have told the young lady what he’d done because she leaned out her window and waved, mouthing “Thank you.” She must’ve been embarrassed that he’d repaid her rudeness with kindness.

When arriving at the second window to pick up his order, he presented two paid receipts: one for his order, one for the lady’s. The clerk at the second window handed him both orders. The Chief looked in his rear-view mirror, smiled, and waved.

He knew she’d have to go back to the end of the line and start over again.

Moral of the story: don’t honk your horn at older people, especially retired Navy CPOs. They’ve been around a long time.
